Day 5 Cold Water Classic Canada: Heats 1-4
Wednesday October 13 North Chesterman Beach - Devries Keeps Hope Alive!
Peter Devries kept true to his free surfing style today looking relaxed and confident in the water. And he's on his way to the next round because of it. Devries rocked the waves today although to hear him tell the story it was the waves who came to him: "Those waves just kind of came to me...I paddled out and it seemed like every wave that would come to me was a good little left." Devries commented after the heat. On one wave Devries got top points for his vertical moves: "When you go vertical three times in a row the judges usually give you a pretty good score", he smiled "I kind of did a little hip float, and then I came off the bottom and it was a nice bowly steep section, so I just put it up vertical in the pocket and snapped it back down." What's up for the rest of the day for Peter - hanging with family and friends on the beach and enjoying the surfing.
Sepp Bruhwiler and Benn Murphy both surfed heats today and though both local boys surfed well they are now out of the competition. In a tough heat - well, let's face it they are all getting tough now - it was Glenn Hall, Julian Wilson and Teppei Tajima - all three surfers had some amazing rides but Hall and Wilson were able to find the waves and score the points. We say good bye to Japanese surfer Tajima and hope he returns next year so we can watch his fluid surfing style again.
